Sonia Dua Dewan
Physiotherapist

Sonia’s Bio
With over 20 years of experience in clinical practice, academia and leadership, Sonia Dua Dewan has worked across hospitals, private clinics and community healthcare settings in Australia, Malaysia, the United Kingdom and India.
After completing her Bachelor of Physiotherapy at Karnataka University in 2001, she developed a keen interest in understanding the impact of pain on individuals’ lives, behaviour and overall well-being. This passion led her to pursue postgraduate studies in Pain Management at Queen Margaret University, Scotland, completing her degree in 2005.
During her work in community healthcare in Edinburgh, Sonia supported people living with persistent pain by providing education, practical self-management strategies and the knowledge needed to better understand and manage their conditions, improve their function and enhance their quality of life.
Sonia subsequently moved to Malaysia, where she worked in community rehabilitation and aged care before joining MAHSA University as an academician. Over nearly a decade, she contributed to the education and professional development of future physiotherapists while maintaining her clinical practice. Her work with patients experiencing pelvic pain and urinary incontinence further strengthened her interest in women’s health. This interest also became personal when her daughter, who participates in ballet, experienced urinary incontinence during dancing.
Recognising the impact such concerns can have on confidence, participation and quality of life, Sonia was motivated to deepen her knowledge of women’s pelvic health. Today, she is passionate about providing compassionate, evidence-based and individualised care that empowers women to better understand their bodies, address pelvic health concerns and participate confidently in the activities they value.
